Obituary for Donald Joe Collier
Donald Joe (D.J.) Collier, age 81, of Blair, passed away Saturday morning, April 4, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Collier was born on August 1, 1927, in Mangum, to Ervin Joe and Mae Belle (Mannahan) Collier. After attending Mangum High School, D.J. joined the United States Navy in 1944 at the young age of seventeen. Following his discharge in 1946, he worked a short time for Mangum City Power. During this time he learned refrigeration and electrical work. On September 1, 1951, he married the love of his life, Joyce M. Barton, in Mangum, and they spent the next fifty-seven wonderful years together. In 1947, he began a career with Southwestern Bell where he served as a loyal employee for the next thirty-eight years, retiring in 1985. Beginning in 1983, D.J. and Joyce ran a successful greyhound business for ten years.
Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Joyce of the home; four children, Jerri Lynn Collier of Oklahoma City, Terri Sue Caton of Warren, Tommy Joe Collier and wife Marla Joe of Blair and Johnny Mac and Lorie Collier of Yukon; twelve grandchildren, Amy McSwane, Lisa Overall, Jenni Easter, Michael Caton, Thomas Caton, Kelly Caton, Thomas Moore, Dakota Moore, Carissa Collier, Justin Collier, Ashlyn Collier and Jacob Joseph Collier; seven great grandchildren, Jennie Easter, Kiley Easter, Ally Caton, Austin Caton, Kayden Moore, Allisyn Moore and Allyssa Moore; one brother, Malcom Collier and wife Joella of Lafayette, Louisiana along with many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
Graveside services for D.J. Collier will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Warren Cemetery with Ray Moffiet officiating. Services are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
