Obituary for Donato Hernandez Vera Jr.
Donato "Don" Hernandez Vera, Jr., age 66, of Martha, Oklahoma, died Saturday night following a traffic accident north of Altus, Oklahoma.
Don was born December 17th, 1935, at Pawnee, TX, to Donato Sr. and Ramona Vera. He moved to Jackson County from Seagraves, TX and has been a resident of the area for many years. He married Nellie Avila at Vernon, TX and was an accomplished guitar player, gardener and a self-employed mechanic. Don enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and was affectionately known as "papaw" to the grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father and mother-in-law, Maria Lupe Avila.
Survivors include his wife, Nellie Vera, of the home; one son, Oscar Vera of Martha, Oklahoma; four daughters, Romanita Vera of Martha, Oklahoma, Connie Hammock and husband Jamie of Norfolk, VA, Corinda Buxton and husband Jonathan of Altus, Oklahoma and Nelda Cox and husband Adam of Lone Wolf, OK; four step-daughters; one step-son; one sister, Eulalia Rubio and husband Robert of Seagraves, TX and Lisa Rubio of Brownfield, TX; one nephew, Robert Dale Rubio of Austin, TX; two grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
