TAYLOR

Heaven"s gates opened May 22nd, 2014, and welcomed the arrival of its newest resident. Doris Etta Taylor was born on December 5, 1928, in Altus, Oklahoma, and spent most of her life there. In 2010, she moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma, where her son Dan and his family enjoyed sharing many family events and holidays.

Doris was very involved at Altus High School and graduated as Salutatorian in 1947. She was chosen as FFA Sweetheart her senior year. Doris was active for many years in the Altus Alumni Association. After high school Doris attended and graduated from Draughn"s Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon return to Altus, she worked at Arkla Gas Company, Roosevelt Elementary School and was the Health Benefits advisor at Altus Air Force Base. Doris always cherished her role as Health Benefits Advisor where she was able to counsel, encourage, and support patients. Doris"s dedication and commitment to helping others in this position earned her over 30 certificates of recognition and awards for her exemplary work. For several years after her retirement in 1992, many people she had assisted still sought her guidance and advice.

Doris met Bob L. Taylor while she was working at Plaza Theater. He said Doris was so shy that he had to write her a note just to say Hello! Doris and Bob were married on January 29, 1949, in Vernon, Texas. Their love and devotion to each other were an inspiration throughout their marriage. Bob preceded Doris in death in 1996.

Doris was a life-long member of First Baptist Church in Altus. She taught junior high school girls Sunday School class for over 40 years and later taught a ladies Bible class. She was faithfully involved in the prayer and visitation ministries. If she told you she would pray for you, rest assured you were prayed for! She witnessed and shared her love of Christ with everyone she met. Her life was a model of humility, selflessness, love, caring and an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Doris loved traveling throughout England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland while visiting her son Dan and his family. Vacations and family reunions at Red River, New Mexico, Rockaway Beach, Missouri, Possum Kingdom Lake and Lake Texoma provided a lifetime of memories.

Doris was a strong, compassionate, humble Christian. Her love and encouragement provided strength for her family, whom she loved dearly. Although we have lost such a great source of love and support, we have all gained a new guardian angel. She always said "God is so good and has especially blessed us with a wonderful family"!

Doris is survived by her two sons: David and his wife Dana of Corsicana, Texas; Dan and his wife Susan of Tulsa, Oklahoma; granddaughters Tiffany Harrison, Courtney Prater, Lindsey Taylor of Corsicana, Texas; Sara Taylor of Oklahoma City; Emily Taylor of Tulsa, Oklahoma; grandson Zac Taylor of Long Beach, California and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers T.L. Gramling of Altus and Gene Gramling of Fort Worth, Texas; sisters-in-law Thelma Robinson, Judy Gramling and Beverly Gramling. She was proud and loved all of her nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Thomas and Ethel Gramling, sister Geneva Gramling Swanson, brothers Clifton and Dean Gramling, and mother-in-law Lulu Taylor.

The family is receiving visitors from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, May 25th, 2014 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 26th, 2014 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Moore and Reverend Gary Gramling officiating. A private interment will be held prior to the service at Altus City Cemetery.
