DOROTHY MAE DAGGETT JACKSON
Dorothy Mae Daggett Jackson was born June 18, 1920 in Midland, Arkansas, to Edward "Ned" and Willie Mae Daggett. She later moved with her parents and seven siblings to Poteau, Oklahoma.
In 1926 she moved to Friendship, Oklahoma and a year later she and her family moved to Altus, Oklahoma. Dorothy grew up in the Great Depression and worked for the Works Projects Administration (WPA). She attended and graduated Lincoln High School in 1938 as Valedictorian of her class. She went on to Little Rock, Arkansas on an academic scholarship, studying nursing and education.
In 1946, Dorothy married Shawnee Jackson; Sr. They had nine children which included two sets of twins. They lived in Altus, Oklahoma; Knox City, Texas and finally resided in Amarillo, Texas. In 1968 Shawnee Sr., was killed in a car wreck leaving Dorothy to care for five of her young children. By the grace of God and her Christian faith she was able to do that. Dorothy "Momma" never remarried.
In 1969, Dorothy moved back to Altus to be near her family. Still, more tragedy followed as she lost a son in 1970, another son in 1982, and a third son in 2010. Dorothy worked for 20 years at the Vernon State Hospital. She never drove but paid her share to carpool.
Dorothy is of the Pentecostal faith, and attended the First Church of God in Christ, now called Greater Love Ministries for 60 years. She was the Church Treasurer for 20 years, she sang in the church choir, she was a seamstress and made various quilts, handkerchiefs, and clothing for the Sewing Circle and the public.
In 2008 Dorothy moved to Amarillo, Texas and then to Dallas, Texas to be with her daughter Dorothy Laverne Jackson. She took wings and went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Shawnee Jackson Sr., three sons, Shawnee Jackson Jr., Lorenzo Earl Jackson, and Michael Wayne Jackson, and all of her siblings. She leaves to cherish her memories two sons; Jackie "Vicky" Jackson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Author Jackson of Aurora, Colorado; Four daughters; Brenda "Perry" Edwards of Amarillo, Texas; Dorothy Laverne Jackson of Dallas, Texas; "Ronnie" McDonald of Mesquite, Texas and Lorraine Jackson " Willis of Altus, Oklahoma. She had 40 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; a special niece, Earline Lewis and her two adopted daughters; Edna Douglas and Bennie Dean; and a host of relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 10 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.

Funeral Services for Dorothy Jackson will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m., February 11, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Reverend Robert Green officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
