POLLARD
Earl Montie Pollard, age 93, of Altus, passed away Tuesday, January 13, 2015, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton.
Mr. Pollard was born in Love County near Simon, Oklahoma, on January 10, 1922, to Montie Milton and May (Hodgeson) Pollard. After attending school at Lugert, Elk View, Warren and Russett, he was drafted into the United States Army on November 10, 1942. Earl spent three years serving his country, with part of his assignment in Europe where several months were spent in combat. A tail gunner in Company B 11th Tank Battalion, 10th Armored Division, he was in the third army most of the time. Earl was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He was also awarded the Bronze Star, the European service ribbon with three battle stars and several gunnery medals. While in the Army, he married the love of his life, Olga Faye Sprabary, on December 7, 1943, and they spent the next fifty-one wonderful years together before her death on October 17, 1995. After leaving the army, he worked for a seismograph company, Knox Hardware Store, in Blair, Hinkle Appliance, in Altus, and twenty-five years at Altus Air Force Base in the Civil Engineers Squadron, before retiring in 1982. After retiring, he and his loving wife Faye spent several years traveling, camping and fishing with their many friends and relatives.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sons, Danny Earl Pollard and Jerry Don Pollard; three sisters, Voncille Briscoe, Veda Pfortmiller and Bobbie Nell Cramer and one brother, J.D. Pollard, he is survived by two sons, Randy Pollard of Altus and Terry Pollard of Burneyville, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; two brothers, Kenneth Pollard of Collinsville, Oklahoma and Charles Deloy Pollard of Oklahoma City; a sister-in-law, Dana Booker and husband Marlan of Headrick; a brother-in-law, Albert Sullivan and wife Marilyn of Blair; a special friend, Betty Jackson of Altus, along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Earl Pollard will be at 2 p.m., Monday, January 19, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Synott Matthews and Rev. Willie Dykes officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, of Altus.
The family will greet friends from 4 p.m. until 5 p.m., on Sunday, January 18, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
