Eddie McLaughlin, age 77, of Granite, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 20, 2010, at St. Anthony"s Hospital, in Oklahoma City.
Eddie was born in Hoxie, Arkansas on March 4, 1933, to William Henry and Elvie (Riddle) McLaughlin. Loosing both of his parents while he was very young, Eddie left school, in Caruthersville, Missouri, at a young age, and eventually joined the United States Army where he served his country from 1954 until 1956. Eddie moved to Nevada for a short time and later worked in sales after moving to Chicago. Returning to Caruthersville, he met Soyla Estraca and they were married on January 7, 1983. Together, they spent the next several years traveling to Chicago, Canada, Tennessee and Florida with his and her jobs. The early nineties found them in Burkburnett, Texas for awhile and then to Louisiana where Eddie worked in repairing barges. In 1994, they moved to Granite, to be closer to family members, where he lived until his death. Eddie enjoyed working in his shop, collecting, gardening and working in his yard. He had a special love for his grandchildren, who fondly called him paw-paw.
Preceded in death by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters, he is survived by his wife, Soyla, of the home; two children, Waynette Chambers and husband Jason of Granite and Louise Locklear and husband Ronnie of Granite; one step-son, Timmy Estraca and wife Donna of Greer, South Carolina; six grandchildren, Haleigh, Sean, Chesney, Cody, Lindsey and Liberty; his mother-in-law, Juana Estraca of Granite along with many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Eddie McLaughlin will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Granite with Rev. Ben Van Vacter officiating.
