Gober
Edith Bell Gober, 93, longtime resident passed away Wednesday, May 30, 2007 , in Orlando, Florida.
Edith was born September 8, 1913, in Eldorado, Oklahoma. She was the third of six children born to Ed Edward and Nora Bell (Smith) Doughten. On September 14, 1929, at the age of 16, Edith married Herbert H. Gober in Altus, Oklahoma. Making their home in Altus, they joined the Thomas Street Church of Christ where they remained devoted members.
Edith and Herbert raised a very loving and close religious family. They were wonderful parents who always put their children before themselves. They taught their children, not only good moral values, but also how to enjoy each day and to enjoy all of God's blessings and how to love and care for one another. They had over sixty-three wonderful years together before he passed away on December 18, 1992.
Edith worked for many years at the Petite Shop on the Altus Square.
As she became a grandmother, she rarely took home any money, instead used her wages to outfit her grandchildren whom she was so proud of and loved so much. Edith took great pride in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as her numerous nieces and nephews.
She is lovingly survived by her children, Eddie Gober of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Sue Bippes and husband of Orlando, Florida, and Joyce Higgins of San Diego, California; one sister, Elva Gober of Ft. Worth, Texas; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert H. "Hub" Gober; her parents, Ed and Nora Doughten; two brothers, John Troy and Lloyd Doughten; and by two sisters, Edna Webster and Evelyn Burge.
