Obituary for Edward Wong
Edward "PeeWee" Wong, an Altus resident, passed away on July 15, 2022, at the Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. with his loving sister by his side. He was 75 years old at the time of his death.

Edward was born on November 2, 1946, in Boston, MA to his parents, Too Sing Wong and Mary Lee (Adamson) Wong. He grew up in Boston. Edward was extremely studious and could memorize anything after reading it one time. In his youth he trained under his father as chef, cooking in the family's Chinese restaurant. Wanting to further his education and travel he enlisted in the United States Air Force on August 1965. While in the service Edward vigorously pursued his education.  He attended Eastern Washington State University,  Western Oklahoma State College, and Cameron University, where he earned a master's degree in Applied Science.

Edward was always a protector. He enlisted in the United States Air Force and served two tours in Vietnam in order to prevent his brother from going.  He was also stationed at Lackland AFB, Japan, and Altus AFB.  Edward was a high-decorated serviceman who received many accolades during his military career, including the Air Force's Service Medal for Meritorious Service. He also served in Operation Urgent Fury, as not to worry his family he insisted he was on R and R in Grenada.  Helping to liberate Grenada.  Edward achieved the rank of master sergeant and served as a flight chief before being honorably discharged. After he retired from the Air Force in August 1985, he started his career in civil service at Altus Air Force Base. He served his country for another twenty-five years working with the  Department of Defense Finance and Accounting Service. During this time he traveled to many offices but his favorite was the office in  Denver,  Co. where developed a special bond with that branch. This working relationship turned into a great friendship that would last a lifetime. Edward had a unique ability to make friends where ever he worked and traveled. He loved to take road trips across the country to see his countless friends.

On a personal level, Edward was a free spirit who believed in giving of himself to help others over being confined to the constraints of organized religion. He was a man of charity and gave generously to causes dear to his heart. Edward was also active socially. He was a lifetime member of a VFW, REA, DAV, AFSA, NAUS, and NRA., and part of a league bowling team. He was also a member of the alumni association at WOSC and Cameron University.

Edward loved to shop for new electronics and was like a kid in a candy store at Radio Shack. When he saw something he was really amazed by he would buy two one for himself and one to open and learn how it worked.

Outside of his charitable works and social life, Edward enjoyed reading, bowling, fishing, and going to the casino. He loved traveling to Mesquite, Nevada.  He loved collecting hats and had hundreds from all over the globe and Chinese cooking, a passion he shared and cultivated with his father. He also made a  cheesecake that rivaled the finest bakeries in the world.

Edward leaves behind a legacy of kindness, devotion to his country, charity, and true love for others. He will never be forgotten by the countless lives he touched.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved four-legged companion, Fred.

Survivors include his two brothers: Daniel Wong and his wife Paulette of Boston, MA, and Ronald Wong and his wife, Shirley of Boston, MA, two sisters: Karen Slayman and her husband, Boyce of Boston, MA, and Sharon Wong of Boston, MA; nieces and nephews of Boston, MA, a Godson, Jefferey Allan Grigsby of Council Buffs, Iowa; a brother in arms and best friend, Corky Grigsby and wife Nickie of Altus, Oklahoma,  as well as other relatives, colleagues, friends, and comrades.

In lieu of flowers, the Wong family requests donations to be made to the Dementia Society of America by mail to Post Office Box 18901 or online at www.dementiasociety.org/donate.
