Obituary for Eldred Lindon Smith
Eldred L. "Bud" Smith, 87, passed away Thursday December 16th, 2010 peacefully at Clyde W. Cosper Veterans Home in Bonham, Texas.
Bud was born to Kelsie and Minnie Smith in Devol, Oklahoma November 11th, 1923. In 1942 at the age of 17, with his parents consent, Bud joined the U.S. Navy, in his 25 years of service he served in WWII and the Korean War and received 3 commendations, achieved the rank of Chief Petty Officer, and was honorably discharged in 1966. He received a degree in Horology from Midwestern University in Wichita Falls Texas, and was also an avid Amateur Radio Operator. Receiving his license in 1959 and had an infamous call sign of NV5Y; Bud was a lifetime Mason and an active member at the Altus Lodge.
Bud married his wife Essie Allen on January 28th, 1949 in Wichita Falls, Texas and has two sons Randy and Michael Smith.
Bud is survived by his wife Essie Allen of Bonham, Texas, two sons Randy and wife Merry Smith, Michael and wife Joni Smith, one brother Lindole Smith, 5 granddaughters, 3 grandsons, and 2 great grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one brother Bill and two sisters Maxine & Marlene Smith.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm, Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Rev. Michael Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
