Elida P. Lara, age 80, of Altus, formerly of Mangum, passed away Thursday morning, April 14, 2011, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Lara was born on January 11, 1931, in Mathis Texas to Alfredo Pena and Virginia Puentas. In the mid 1960"s, Elida moved to Alabama for a short time and then later to Hollis in the mid 1970"s. In 2008, she moved to Mangum and lived until her health began to decline, when she moved to Altus to be near her family. Besides raising her eleven children, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crossword puzzles, word finds, watching television and spending time with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents; a son Juan Lara; one grandson, Isreal Lopez and four brothers, she is survived by ten children, Margarita P. Hernandez and husband Matilde, Andrea Lopez and husband Pablo, Joe Lara, Rene Lara and wife Marina, David Lara and wife Sheila, Paubla Vasquez and husband Ben, Ramijia Sanchez and husband Robert, Alcaria Ramirez and husband Hector, Sr., Rojelio Lara and wife Cindy and Martin Lara; six sisters, Maria Irene Flores, Hortensia Rosalez, Fransica Lopez, Yolonda Flores, Rosa Flores and Silva Zuniga; three brothers, Tony Pena, Robert Pena and Abelardo Pena; thirty-eight grandchildren, sixty-three great grandchildren, ten great-great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2011, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Jude Shayo AJ officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
