Obituary for Elizabeth McAskill
Elizabeth Minor McAskill passed away on January 9. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, hostess, and bridge player.
She was born in Altus on December 23, 1916, to Elizabeth Virginia Taylor and Frederick William Minor, pioneers in southwest Oklahoma. Mr. Minor arrived on horseback and homesteaded southeast of Altus in 1887. Mr. and Mrs. Minor had 16 children, with five sets of twins, Elizabeth and twin sister Virginia the youngest of the children.

She and her twin sister Virginia shared each other"s household and raised each other"s children. Virginia was married to Bill McAskill and they had four children. The eight cousins were raised together like siblings.
Elizabeth was an excellent bridge player and was a member of the Voguette Bridge Club. She was known for hosting a group of ladies for bridge, complete with refreshments and appointments, and then preparing a sit-down family dinner. She and Sam entertained their extended families and friends.
At her death, she was the oldest living member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. She was member of the Anne Lee Chapter of the Daughter's of the American Revolution.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, her 15 brothers and sisters, and her husband Sam.
She is survived by her four children and their families: daughter Jan McAskill, sons John and wife Bonnie, Tom and wife Denise, and Kim McAskill. Five grandchildren: Terri McAskill Blackwell, Tracy McAskill, Cody McAskill, John Blake McAskill and his wife Ashley Anne, and Betsy Lane McAskill.
