Obituary for Ellis Blaine Stephen
Blaine Stephen, 87, of Altus, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital.
Blaine was born February 7, 1925, in Olustee, Oklahoma, to Jesse Floyd and Georgia Pearl (Ellis) Stephen. He graduated from Porter High School seven miles south of Altus in 1942. He married Marion Grider July 29, 1944, in Altus. In 1950, Blaine entered the Oklahoma Highway Patrol and started in Stillwater as the Driver's Licensing Examiner. In 1952, he and Marion returned to Altus where Blaine was stationed as the Driver's Licensing Examiner in Southwest Oklahoma until 1965. He was then transferred to Oklahoma City Headquarters where he retired in 1983 at the rank of Major. While in Oklahoma City, Blaine served as the Director of Law Enforcement Coordination. After his retirement, Blaine and Marion returned home to Altus to enjoy retirement. Blaine's two great loves were his wife Marion and driving...he started driving at the age of 8! He loved automobiles, and in his lifetime, he bought only 2 used cars and 32 BRAND NEW cars. Blaine was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.
Preceded in death by a baby boy, Eddie Blaine Stephen, his parents, Jesse and Georgia Stephen, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wilton and Delores Stephen and Merril Stephen, Blaine is survived by his loving wife, Marion (Grider) Stephen of Altus; one daughter, Sue (Stephen) Burk and husband Don of Cache, Oklahoma; two grandsons, Don Burk, II and his children, Dillon, Lauren, and Ava, all of Oklahoma City, Brandon Burk and wife Gina and their children Samantha and fianc" Blair Galberth, and Selestial Burk, all of Midwest City; a granddaughter-in-law, Robin Burk, also of Midwest City; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Stephen of Dublin, Texas, and Ann Dane of Oklahoma City; special nieces and nephews, Lynn and Eli Bell of Cedar Park, Texas, Dr. Damon and Carmella Stephen of Gun Barrel City, Texas, Neil and Ann Stephen of Stephenville, Texas, Janet and Cecil Wright of Altus, Phil and Margie Garrison of Altus, Al Ballard of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Judy and Richard Flanland, of Carson City, Nevada; and an aunt, Sandy Dillon of Altus.
The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday, August 10 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Services for Blaine Stephen will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012, at Lowell-Tims Chapel with Chaplain Sam Garner, of the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, officiating.
