Obituary for Elmer Charles Craft Jr.
Elmer Charles Craft Jr. was born April 25, 1927 at Eldorado, Oklahoma to the late Elmer Charles Craft Sr. and Claris Hove Craft. He attended grade school at Prairie Hill and graduated from Duke High School.
Shortly after World War II, he entered the United States Army. During that tenure he spent one year in Europe. He married Marie Ward on January 11, 1976 in Altus, OK. He is well-known for his study and knowledge of Anthology and Archeology of Oklahoma and other areas of the Western United States. He was an avid researcher and collector of relics and antique items of past generations.
He was a member of the Oklahoma and Southwest Oklahoma Anthropological Societies, the Board of Directors of the Western Trails Historical Society where he served as Secretary, the Jackson County Historical Society, serving as Chairman, the Local Association for Mature People, a member of the Retired Rural Letter Carriers Association and the Texas Archeological Society.
He was a steadfast Christian and attended Sunday School and church regularly.
He was employed as a Rural Letter Carrier out of the Eldorado Post Office for a number of years. He later transferred to the Altus Post Office continuing as a Rural Letter Carrier until his retirement in December 1988 because of illness.
He is survived by his wife, Marie of the home; son, Kevin Ward and his wife Gwyn of Andrews, TX; one daughter, Kim Burley and her husband Jeff of Love Park, IL; four grandchildren, James, Joe and Roy Ward and Ron Burley. Also two brothers, Lester and his wife Juanita of Ada, OK, Harold and his wife Pat of Denver, CO; one sister, Louise Haney and her husband Cleo of Sulphur, LA, an uncle and aunt, Seg and Edna Hove, an aunt, Gertrude Hove of Altus, OK; a number of nieces and nephews.
