Elmer Loyd "Ike" Holt passed away on June 20, 2012 after complications with pneumonia. He was born on October 9, 1924 in Blair, Oklahoma to Arthur Holt and Della Estella (Pickering) Holt being the fifth child of 10 children. He passed away at the VA Center in Clinton, OK at the age of 87 years, 8 months, and 11 days.
He enlisted in the army on August 19, 1943 and received an Honorable Discharge on April 3, 1946. He was classified as a Medical Aidman, and performed duties in the US and 16 months in France and Germany. He served with Medical Detachment, 274th Infantry Regiment, 70th Division, which followed infantry platoons into combat. He located the wounded, sick and injured soldiers and administered first aid treatment.
On August 10, 1946 he married Joyce Thomas, they had a son, Danny, on December 24, 1950 and a daughter, Janet, on August 9, 1953. They raised their family on an 80 acre farm 5 miles East of Mangum purchased in 1951. He worked for Gold Star Creamery before purchasing the farm. During years while they were raising their children, he not only worked the farm but also drove the school bus for City View School.
Dominos was his favorite game and he always played to win. He loved his wife, Joyce, who spoiled him rotten and took extremely good care of him over just short of 66 years. He loved his family, his two children, 4 grandchildren and each of his 5 great grandchildren were the light of his life. None of them could do anything wrong.
Preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Harold, Eldon and Carroll Holt and one sister, Pauline Evans he is survived by his wife, Joyce; one son, Danny Holt and wife Lana of Mangum; one daughter, Janet Smith and husband Larry of Norman; four grandchildren, Rodd Ferguson of Oklahoma City, Jaime Fritts and husband Robert of Yukon, Justin Holt and wife Shelly, Chris Holt and wife Jana, all of Mangum; five great grandchildren, Joseph, Skylynn, Jace and Rylyn Holt of Mangum and Emma Fritts of Yukon; five sisters, Cornelia Sullivan of Mangum, AltaMcElroy of Carmichael, California, Jewell Bray of Oklahoma City, Maxine Roller of Enid, Jeanie Head of Madera, California; three sisters-in-law, Karen Holt of Riverside, California, Dorothy Holt of Salinas, California and Juanita Pierson of Mangum along with many nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Ike Holt will be at 2 p.m., Friday, June 22, 2012, at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor James Hopkins officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet Friends on Thursday evening, June 21, 2012, at Greer Funeral Home from 6 until 7 p.m.
