Elvia Luera, age 51, of Altus, passed away late Sunday evening, November 24, 2013, at her residence in Altus.
Ms. Luera was born in Plainview, Texas on November 16, 1962, to Charlie and Santos (Contreras) Luera. Moving to Altus, as a small child, she and her sister, Norma Garcia, were raised by their grandmother, Juanita Contreras, who was an important part of their lives and became their own mother. For a time, Elvia worked at B & K Nursing Home and Hobart Living Center as a Certified Nurses" Aid and loved helping others. Caring for and hanging out with her family was a favorite part of Elvia"s life. In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, dancing, listening to music, traveling, looking at family pictures and being with her favorite cousin, Marlene Rodriguez.
Preceded in death by her mother and father, one son, Tony Esquivel, Sr., and a grandson, Anthony Jacob Luera, she is survived by four children, Matias Luera, Sr., of Oklahoma City, Erica Esquivel of Altus, Bryan Alcorta of Chickasha and Corina Alcorta of Oklahoma City; ten grandchildren, Matias Luera, Jr., Daylan Luera, Cameron Luera, Johnathan Luera, Makenna Luera, Laden Esquivel, Kaylee Alcorta, Alex Yahola, Tony Esquivel, Jr. and Marissa Equivel; eight sisters, Norma Garcia, Delia Luera Hussain, Patsy Villarreal, Nora Tovar, Lisa Maupin, Lucy Villarreal, Monica Cox and Cindy Morales; two brothers, Jr. Villarreal and Oscar Morales; a special friend, Esteban Estrada along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Elvia Luera will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Tovar officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends from 6 until 7 p.m., Tuesday evening, November 26, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
