Obituary for Elvus Jene (E.J.) Allgood
Dr. Elvus Jene (E.J) Allgood passed away Saturday, May 6, 1995, in the Southwestern Hospital in Lawton, Oklahoma.
E.J. was born March 23, 1905 in Summerfield, La. He was the son of the late Sanford and Ida Allgood.
Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma Medical School n 1930, he interned for 14 months at Gorgas Hospital in the Panama Canal Zone. He served his residency at Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas, where he met and married Lillian Pittman in 1933. He first established his practice in Gould, Oklahoma. Following that her served for several years with the United States Indian Health Service. In 1948, he joined his brother, Dr. J.M. Allgood and formed the Allgood OB/GYN Clinic. for many years, the 2 brothers treated families and delivered 1000's of babies. Dr.E.J. practiced medicine for 65 years until his death.
He was a memaber of the Kiwanis Club, served on the Salvation Army Board, and was physician for the County Healthe Department.
Dr. E.J. recently celebrated his 90th birthday and noted the 2 great loves of his life were his family and the University of Oklahoma.
Dr. Allgood was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dr. J.M. Allgood.
He is survived by Lillian, his wife of 62 years; three sons and daughter-in-laws, Jerry and Cleo Allgood of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Richard and Beth Allgood of Lawton; and Ron and Diane Allgood of Altus; one sister, Christelle Ledbetter of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren, Becky Allgood Huston, Brian, Allgood, M.D. John Allgood, Whitney Allgood, Ace Allgood, John R., Allgood, II Bradley Allgood, and Sara Dew; and two great-grandchildren, Erin Houston and Taylor Houston.
