Emma Lou Bruce, age 81, longtime resident of Olustee, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2014, at her residence, in Olustee.
Mrs. Bruce was born in Olustee, Oklahoma on December 2, 1932, to Roy and Marie (Scheurer) Scheldt. Emma Lou moved with her mother to Alton, Illinois for a short time to care for a sick relative and later returned to Olustee. A 1950 graduate of Olustee High School, Emma Lou met Bob Bruce while working in the drug store and they began their courtship which ended in marriage on January 24, 1951. For over fifty years, Emma Lou was a beautician in Olustee and retired in 2009. Emma Lou was very involved in her children"s lives while they were growing up, serving as class parents, cooking for school events and working with 4H for many, many years. An excellent cook, Emma Lou was known for making wedding cakes and cooking for any event where she was needed. In her spare time she enjoyed computer games, painting, sewing, cake decorating, Friday night "pitch parties", helping promote and being involved in any "Olustee Event" where she was needed, but her main hobby was loving and being involved in the events of her children and grandchildren.
Emma Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Lou Ann Bruce, in 1954; her husband, Bob, in 2001 and a granddaughter, Tedi Woolbright. She is survived by three children, Jimmy Bruce and wife Diana of Blair, Kay Woolbright and Dr. Russ Newman of Lawton and Phillip Bruce and wife Antwarnette of Moss Landing, California; five grandchildren, Casey Jones and wife Lina of Cleburne, Texas, Miranda Bruce of Oklahoma City, Crystal Payne and husband Chad of Alamogordo, New Mexico, Kaci Wyatt and husband Jeff of Franklin, Tennessee and Roman Bruce of Moss Landing, California; nine grandchildren, Dillan Jones, Katelyn Jones, Isabella Murdy, Jesse Villanueva, Aiden Payne, Addison Payne, Kaydee Wyatt, Aidan Wyatt and Emma Wyatt along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Emma Lou Bruce will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, 2014, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Olustee Cemetery.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Monday, March 31, 2014, from 6 until 7 p.m.
