Obituary for Emma Marie Barnes Stallings
Emma Marie Barnes Stallings, 86, passed away September 12, 2001. She was born November 27, 1914 in Penelope, Hill County, Texas to Alfred Lonnie and Ethel Maude (Zumbro) Barnes. The family moved to the Altus area in 1917 where Marie went to school, graduating from High School. On December 31, 1934, she was married to John Durward Stallings in Altus, Oklahoma. The couple lived here until 1945 when they moved to San Antonio, Texas and lived there until 1954 when they relocated once again to Altus never to move again.
Marie Stallings was a homemaker and mother of two daughters. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Ozark Home Demonstration Club, The Elizabeth Class and the Keenagers of the First Baptist Church. She was an expert in knitting, crocheting, and embroidering and was an exhibiter at the annual Jackson County Fair where her entries always won top prizes. she and her husband, Durward, were world travelers having traveled to most U.S. states, (including Hawaii), England, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Russia, Poland, Israel and Canada.
She is preceded in death by; John durward Stallings, husband of 60 years, in March 1994; sisters, Thelma Lee Barnes Seay and husband, Joe Lee Seay; Addie Lois (Pookie) barnes Wagoner; Ethel Joyce (Tommy) Barnes Howell; Lloyd E. Appling, brother-in-law; Joe Linneaus Stallings, brother-in-law; and James Donald Appling, nephew.
She is survived by children; Sandra June Stallings Driesslein and William George Driesslein, Burke, VA; and Beverly Jeane Stllings Hart and Dr. Leroy Hart, Bosie City, OK. Grandchildren; David Lawrence McCoy and Elena Sowa McCoy, Altus, OK; Kevin Durward McCoy and Cynthia Annette Parchman McCoy, Willow Park, TX; William George Driesslein, Jr. Burke, VA; Steven Jon Hart and Sandra Jean Rieser Hart, Wichita, KS; Dillis Leroy Hart, II Boise City, OK; Davin Lynn Hart, Wichita, K.S.
