Obituary for Ernestine (Warren) Thompson
Ernestine Thompson was born July 19, 1917 near Martha, Oklahoma to Ernest Wright Warren and Iva Mae Howard Warren. She married Garland Thompson on March 10, 1939.
Ernestine graduated from Martha High School in 1935, attended Altus Junior College and Central State Teachers College in Edmond. She graduated from Weatherford State Teacher's College in Weatherford, OK. She taught 3rd grade and music classed at Porter High School for five years, then taught 3rd grade at Robert E. Lee in Altus for twenty-three years. When Robert E. Lee closed, she transferred to Rivers where she taught 3rd grade for ten years.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Excelsior Sunday School Class, Circle I, Retired Teachers of Jackson County and Altus Literary Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Winfred, and husband Garland.
She is survived by daughter Judy Dodson and husband Keith, grandchildren Debbie Cox and husband Robert; Mark Dodson and wife Lisa; and Scott Dodson and wife Amy. Great-grandchildren are Carly Cox, Allison Cox and Chloe Cox, Marissa Dodson, Lauren Dodson and Cooper Dodson. Sister in law are Ella Mae Thompson and Ernestine Thompson of Mangum, and a nephew Joe Thompson and wife Gerry, nieces Sherri Banister and Ginger Renslow. Special friends Ignacio and Josephine Martinez, Juanita, Junior, Bessie and Angel and their families. Very Special Caregivers were Mary Willeford, Erma Fortenberry and Erica Pantoja.
services will be Thursday at 2:00 at First United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Dave Player and Rev. Jan Oden.
Visitation will be Wednesday September 14, at Lowell-Tims from 7-8 pm where the family will greet friends. Memorials in honor of Ernestine Thompson may be sent to the Family Life Center at First United Methodist Church or to the organization or charity of your choice.
