Ervin Terrell Cooper, age 87, of Willow, passed away early Monday morning at Grace Living Center in Mangum.
Mr. Cooper was born on November 8, 1921, in Granite, Oklahoma to Ervin and Stella (Hinson) Cooper. A longtime member of the Church of Christ, he began attending the Willow congregation, with his family, in 1934. After graduating from Eastview School in 1941, he entered the United States Army in 1942. During his three years of service, he was involved in the Tunisia Campaign, Naples-Foggia Campaign, North Apennines Campaign, Po Valley Campaign and the Rome-Arno Campaign. During this time he received the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon and One Silver Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Upon discharge in August of 1945, he returned to Willow and on May 2, 1947, he married Evelyn Gray in Wellington, Texas. After forty-four wonderful years of marriage, she preceded him in death on June 3, 1991. For many years, Mr. Cooper farmed and did carpentry work while working for Thirsty Water for thirty of those years. Fishing and playing dominoes were two of his hobbies along with spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Clara Denton and Euva Mae Harris; his wife, Evelyn and one daughter, Mary Scott in 2003, he is survived by one daughter, Terry Maddox and husband Ronnie of Mangum; four grandchildren, Krystle Carroll and husband Nicholas of Altus, John Lafayette Lafe Maddox of Mangum, Garrett Scott of Oklahoma City and Morgan Scott of Weatherford, Oklahoma; one great grandchild, Christian Carroll of Altus; two sisters, Eunice Walker of Oregon and Opal Nelson and husband Bruce of Carter; son-in-law Tim Scott of Altus along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Terrell Cooper will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 30, 2009, at the Willow Church of Christ with Mike Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the Willow Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, from 5:30 until 7 p.m. at Greer Funeral Home.
