Obituary for Esiquia C. Martinez
Esiquia C. Martinez, age 83, of Altus, passed away early Thursday morning, June 20, 2013, at her residence, in Altus.
Mrs. Martinez was born in Gonzales, Texas, on October 3, 1929, to Roberto and Ramona (Pena) Cisneros. As a child, Esiquia moved to Robstown, Texas where she attended school and later worked at a bakery and met Felix Martinez. In March of 1949, she and Felix were married and they lived in several locations doing migrant work. Esiquia chopped and picked many rows of cotton in her life, while raising nine children. In 1956, the family moved to southwest Oklahoma and Esiquia worked in housekeeping at the Sagamar Motel and later at the Altus House Nursing Home. In her spare time, she loved dancing, shopping and making homemade tortillas for her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Cecelia Molina and one son, Carlos Martinez, she is survived by six daughters, Elizabeth Basaldua and husband Lasaro of Olustee, Evangelina Bradley and husband Brian of Washington State, Elvira Martinez-Toro and husband Carlos of Las Vegas, Nevada, Emma Brown of Conroe, Texas, Elva Babyak and husband Michael of Tampa, Florida and Esther Briseno and husband Antonio of Sacramento, California; two sons, Felix Martinez of Altus and Fernando Cisneros of Altus; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; three sisters, Blasita Amaya of Nixon, Texas, Tiodula Pena of Smiley, Texas and Rita Santos and husband Rudy of Weimar, Texas; one brother, Rudy Cisneros and wife Alecia of Robstown, Texas along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Esiquia Martinez will be at 11 a.m., Monday, June 24, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Debbie Kulbeth, Pastor Mark Olson and Renee" Amaya officiating. Interment will follow at Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
