SLATON

Esteleta Jewel (Owen) Slaton, age 80, of Mesquite, Texas passed away Tuesday afternoon, March 6, 2012, at Walnut Place Healthcare Community, in Dallas, Texas.

Mrs. Slaton was born in Sayre, Oklahoma on April 21, 1931 to Ivin and Nina (Bearden) Owen. She grew up in Duke, Oklahoma where she graduated from Duke High School in 1950. She married Richard L. Slaton on July 1, 1951. After marriage, they established their first home in Oklahoma City. In 1962 the couple moved to Mesquite, Texas where she lived the remainder of her life.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Spencer Owen. Esteleta is survived by her children, Robert Slaton, Janet Slaton and Sandra Hiltz, a son-in-law, Hal Hiltz, a brother, Ronald Owen, and sisters Katy Briggs, Charlotte Evans and Andrea Curry. She was a cherished mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

Funeral services for Esteleta Slaton will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 10, 2012, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Todd McRay officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.

The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home on Friday evening, March 9, 2012, from 6 until 7 p.m.
