Esther Elaine Rivera, age 70, of Mangum passed away Sunday morning, April 7, 2013, at her residence in Mangum.
Ms. Rivera was born in South Haven, Michigan on April 30, 1942, to Otis and Olive (Chamberland) Whiteman. Spending most of her early life in Michigan, she met Jose Rivera, Sr., and they were married in 1960. For the next several years, they traveled to many different locations doing migrant work. From the early sixties until 1974, they resided in Davenport, Florida and in 1974, Esther and her children moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan. In 1996, Esther moved to Mangum where she resided until her death. A hard worker all of her life, Esther enjoyed painting, working crossword puzzles, watching her soap operas and spending time with her family and friends.
Preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Rosalinda Rivera she is survived by four sons: Joseph Rivera, Jr. and wife Maria of Mangum; Martin Rivera of Mangum; Michael Rivera of Pennsylvania and Frank Rivera and wife Elizabeth of Clarksville, Tennessee. Five daughters: Elaine Ramirez of Mangum; Mary Ramirez and husband Jesus of Mangum; Darlene Medrano and husband Rodrigo of Pearsall Texas; Dorene Rivera of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Rebecca Rivera of Michigan; thirty-one grandchildren, forty-two great grandchildren along with many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Esther Rivera will be at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at the Living Waters United Pentecostal Church with Brother David Weber officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home.
