Eugene (Gene) John Hahn, 87, of Granite, went to be with his Lord Thursday, October 13, 2016, from his home, with his family by his side.
Gene was born in Granite, Oklahoma on January 28, 1929 to Jona "John" Frank and Elsa Marie (Kuretsch) Hahn. He attended school at Ozark his first two years and graduated from Lake Creek with the class of 1947.
May 14, 1950, on Mother"s Day, he married the love of his life, Mary Louise Anderson, in Granite. They made their home on a farm the next two years, east of Mangum, then moved to Granite. Gene was a faithful member of St. John"s Lutheran Church and was confirmed April 18, 1943. He served as an Elder, Trustee, Treasurer and Bible Class Teacher for several years. Gene was a member of the Lutheran Laymen"s League and served as president. He was also a member of Aid Association for Lutherans.
Gene worked for Hockaday Hardware for two years and Willis Hardware and Quarry for two years. He served thirty-eight years as the Town Clerk and Administrator and later as a consultant for twenty-two more years. Gene received many awards over the years, but one of the most prestigious awards was "The Seven Hats Award", a national award from the American Public Power Association. Gene served as a fireman for twenty-one years, E.M.T. for twenty years, was founder and member of the board of directors for the Tri-County Community Action Group, Trustee for the Girl Scout Camp, Coordinator of Boy Scouts, Civil Defense Director for the Town of Granite and Greer County for more than thirty-five years. As a member, he served as president, secretary and tail twister of the Granite Lions Club for fifty-six years. Gene was president and secretary for the Granite Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Granite Industrial Corporation and the Southern Corridor Association. Gene was a board member of the Oklahoma Municipal Power Authority for twenty years, Quartz Mountain Regional Water Authority for seventeen years, Greer County Industrial Trust Authority for fifteen years and the Granite Housing Authority for twenty-six years.
Gene"s hobbies were fishing, gardening, flower and yard care. He loved helping people, being with his family and friends and praising God.
Preceded in death by his parents, John and Elsa Hahn; brother-in-laws Elmo Petzold and Don Thacker; and sister-in-law Gracie Thacker.
Gene is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Mary Lou of the home; three sons, Larry Hahn and wife Sue of Granite, Gary Hahn of Granite, and Danny Hahn and wife Martha of Klein, Texas; one daughter Darla Cardenas and husband Alan of Columbus, Mississippi; ten grandchildren, Justin Hahn and wife Amity, Andrew Hahn and wife Tammy, Crystal Randazzo and husband Michael, Kayla Hahn, Jeremy Weaver and wife Realene, Jason Cardenas, Ashley Cardenas and husband Tyler, Leigh Anne Hahn, Jackson Hahn, and Ellyse Hahn; eleven great grandchildren, Tatum, Travis, and Jacee Weaver, Gabriel and Ariane Hahn, Avery and Jace Hahn, Gavin, Laney, Cody, and Zane Randazzo, and Aaron Cardenas; one sister Gladys Petzold of Mangum and one brother Jerry Hahn of Granite.
Funeral Services for Gene Hahn will be at 10 a.m., Monday, October 17, 2016 at St. John"s Lutheran Church in Granite. Interment will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery in Granite, Oklahoma. Services are under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Granite.
