Eula Mae Barnes was born on January 5th, 1928, in Blair, Oklahoma, to Frances (Polk) and Vernon Campbell. She passed from this life on October 8, 2015.
Eula attended both Blair and Martha schools. She married Jack Barnes on February 24, 1946, in Vernon, Texas. They raised five children in Altus and were owners of the Fairmont Milk distributorship for many years in southwestern Oklahoma and later the Borden Milk distributorship. Additionally, they distributed both Pepsi Cola and Dr. Pepper products. They also built and, in their latter years, ran the Altus Skate Place. Eula, especially, enjoyed her role as the DJ at the Skate Place. She was so fond of the kids who frequented there and it appeared they enjoyed her company as well.
Eula was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jack, brother Curran Campbell, and two infant brothers. Also preceding her were brother-in-law Jake Barnes and three sisters-in-law, Vera Deal, Mae Nell Lees, and Ruth Fischer.
Eula enjoyed her large, loving family which numbers 73 current living direct descendants at last count.
She is survived by four daughters and one son. They are Nancy Thornton and husband Kip of Headrick; Jackie Prickett and husband Bob of Norman; Gloria Goddard and husband Rob of Elk City; Carman LaRue and husband Bill of Edmond; and Rob Barnes and wife Patti of Altus.
Eula is also survived by fifteen grandchildren. They are Stacy Belanger and husband Matt; Jill Owenby and husband Jeff; Jami West and husband Everett; Shane LaRue and wife Amy; Jennifer Rainey and husband Rick; Tara Threatt and husband Larry; Alicia Daun and husband Joe; Halee Threatt and husband Jesse; Jeff Nelson; Joey Nelson and wife Marla; Trebor Thornton and wife Donna; Dean Thornton and wife Denise; Kara Tims and husband Tyler; Adam Guttormsen; and Molly Dickerson and husband Ray.
Thirty-two great grandchildren also survive her, in addition to a brother-in-law, Harold Worrell and his wife Margaret. Also, surviving is a sister-in-law, Mary Campbell, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and many, many good friends.
Funeral services for Eula Barnes will be at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2015, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Doug Altom officiating. Interment will follow at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
The family will greet friends at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home on Monday, October 12, 2015, 6 until 8 p.m.
