Obituary for Eva Evelyn Morton (Vollintine)
Graveside services for Eva Morton, age 93, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, July 22, 2002 at the Victory Cemetery with Reverend Everett Smaltz officiating. Lowell Tims Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
Eva was born in Sorento, IL March 22nd, 1909 to James Clarence and Mary Malissa (Havron) Vollintine. In 1927, she married Audie E. "Bill" Morton in Vernon, Texas. Mr. Morton preceded her in death on February 15, 1973.
Mrs. Morton owned and operated a cafe in Duke for many years. She also babysat with many of the area children throughout the years. Eva and Bill farmed in the Duke area for over 40 years. She was a member of the Duke First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. In 1988 she left Duke to be close to her family and has lived in Fort Worth, Texas for the last several years near her daughter Tressie.
Eva was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary Vollintine; her husband, Bill; and by nine brothers and sisters.
She is survived by one daughter, Tressie Barker of Azle, Texas; four grandchildren, Sherry Ballou of Azle, Texas, Gail Ballou and his wife Judy of Mountain View, Oklahoma, Sharron Schmitt and her husband Mike of Azle, Texas and Jonnathan Ballou and his wife Jackie of Gould, Oklahoma. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Ellen Schmedede of Carlinville, Illinois and Francis Ahrens of Princeton, Illinois; eight great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family has asked that in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Duke Building Fund in Eva Morton's memory.
