WETSEL

Curtis Wetsel, age 93, of Mangum, passed away early Saturday morning, June 11, 2011, at Quartz Mountain Medical Center in Mangum.

Mr. Wetsel was born at Lake Creek, Oklahoma, at his grandparents" home, on November 28, 1917, to Benjamin Earl and Eska (Curtis) Wetsel. After living several years on the family farm northeast of Mangum, they moved into Mangum where Curtis attended Mangum School, graduating in 1935. After graduation, he moved to Oklahoma City where he worked at a finance company and for R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company as a salesman. Later, Curtis moved back to Mangum and on July 17, 1947, he married the love of his life, Oma Mae Passmore, at her parent"s home, and they spent the next sixty-three years together before his death. A long-time member of the Church of Christ, Curtis served the citizens of Greer County, as one of its county commissioners, for twenty-four years and continued farming and ranching after his retirement. Playing croquet, forty-two and fishing were some of his favorite hobbies.

Preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Robert Carroll Wetsel and Arlon Francis Wetsel and one great grandson, Curtis Bradley Wetsel, he is survived by his wife, Oma Mae Wetsel, of the home; two sons, Steven Curtis Wetsel of Mangum and Charles Earl Wetsel and wife Jan of Edmond; four grandchildren, Stephenie Ann Golden and husband Lloyd of Mangum, Bradley Steven Wetsel of Mangum, Jonathan Charles Wetsel of Oklahoma City and Jared Michael Wetsel of Edmond; five great grandchildren, Cristal Renee Blain, Vanessa Jean Blain, Jacob Murray Blain, Kaylin McKinsey Wetsel and Cassette Irvin; two great-great grandchildren, Talon Joe Madrid and Taycee Mae Madrid along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services for Curtis Wetsel will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at the Mangum Church of Christ with Eddie Beard and Roger Todd officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
