Evie Elizabeth (Higgs) Clinkscales, age 104, longtime resident of Altus, passed away Friday morning on June 24, 2016 at English Village Manor in Altus.
Evie was born in Conway, Arkansas on March 27, 1912 to her parents Kelcy and Iva (Muse) Higgs. On November 12, 1932 she married Clayton Simpson Sloan in Martha, Oklahoma and they were married until Clayton was killed in a trucking accident south of Vernon, Texas in 1938. Later Evie married Bob Clinkscales on February 15, 1949 in Vernon, Texas and they were married for over 57 years before his death in 2006. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Altus.
Preceded in death by her parents, both her husbands; three brothers, James, Charles, and Winston Higgs; son-in-law, Eddie Ray Peyton; and her mother-in-law, Pearl Simpson Sloan; Evie is survived by her daughter, Helen Clay Peyton of Altus; her two sons, Norris Douglass Sloan and wife Mary of Amarillo, Texas; and Ronnie Clinkscale and wife Kay of Fort Worth, Texas; sister-in-law, Ethelda Higgs of Oklahoma City; 7 grandchildren who lovingly referred to Evie as Grandmother, Pamela (Peyton) Smith of Moore; Perry Peyton of Moore; Paula (Peyton) Puckett and husband Jim of Altus; Jimmy Jack Sloan and wife Autumn of Odessa, Texas; Bill Clinkscale and wife Jan; Lynn Nezworski and husband Tom; Anna Meeker and husband Dan all of Fort Worth, Texas; fourteen great grandchildren, who lovingly referred to Evie as Me Me, Cristy Moreno and husband Manuel of Oklahoma City; Eddie Peyton and wife Tina of Moore; Jessica Smith of Moore; Desirae Peyton of Moore; Kelcy Wallace of Altus; Jamie Puckett of Altus; Abby Sloan of Odessa, Texas; Maggie Sloan of Odessa, Texas; Avery Clinkscale; Julia Clinkscale; Anna Nezworski; William Nezworski; Emily Meeker; and Jennifer Meeker; ten great great grandchildren, Tobyn, Amanda, Peyton; Alexia, Briley; Lacey; Brenda, Madison, Leddie Ray; and Klayton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other family members; and friends. Evie"s family mostly includes of five generations of family members. Evie"s love of life was all her family.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating.
