Evonne Kelly, 88, of Kingston, Oklahoma and formerly of Jackson County, passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at the Family Care Center of Kingston.
Mrs Kelly was born on March 15, 1919, to Jesse Lee and Emma Edna (Prewitt) Parker in Mt. Pleasant, Texas. After the death of her father, her family moved to Frederick, Oklahoma where she graduated from high school in 1938. Following graduation she worked at several jobs to help ;support her family. On February 8, 1941,she married Iris Kelly in Frederick. In June of 1942, Iris began serving his country during WWll until October 1945.
Following the war, Iris and Evonne moved to Stockton, California to work in an aircraft factory. Two years later they returned to Frederick where Iris opened a machine shop. In 1948, they purchased a farm near Martha and Evonne supported the family as a homemaker. After the death of Iris in 1975, she moved to Altus where she owned a Merle Norman business for several years, worked at the Surry Shop and operated a Christian book store. Evonne was also active in the Sorisois Club in Martha and the First Baptist Church of Altus. In 1992, Evonne moved to Peaachtree City, Georgia to be closer to her family and returned to Oklahoma in December 2004.
Evonne was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Iris; one son, Jerry Lee and two sisters, Barbara Bilbrey and Glenna Wallace. She is survived by three sons, John H. Kelly and wife Mary Ann of Kingston, Oklahoma, Gary Kelly and wife Louise of Cody, Wyoming and Don Kelly and wife Marsha of Norman, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Kristi Wade and husband David of Trophy Club, Texas, John Nikolas Kelly and wife Elayna of Dallas Texas, Holly Smith and husband Eric of Tuttle, Oklahoma and LCPL Weston Kelly who is serving his country in Iraq; six great grandchildren, John Thomas Wade and wife Tracy, Kelly Wade, Corbyn Kelly, Nikolas Kelly, Tyler Smith and Tanner Smith; three great-great grandchildren, John Parker Wade, Haley Butler and Morgan Butler; one brother, L.J. Parker and wife Reba of Ft. Worth, Texas along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services for Evonne Kelly will be held at 2 p. m, Saturday, October 20, 2007, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Jack LaFountain officiating. Interment will follow at the Martha Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home of Altus.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of Evonne Kelly.
The family will greet friends on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from1 until 2 p.m. at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
