CLARKE
Fitzgerald Winton Clarke, age 87, of Altus, passed away early Saturday morning, August 10, 2013, at English Village Nursing Home.
Mr. Clarke was born in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad West Indies, on February 4, 1926, to Cyril and Naomi Clarke. Graduating from Tranquility High School and John Donaldson Technical Institute, Fitzgerald worked as a clerk for several years before becoming a structural draftsman. On February 4, 1950, he married the love of his life, Elsa Rudder, and she preceded him in death in January 2007, after fifty-seven wonderful years of marriage. In 1969, they moved to Brooklyn, New York where he continued his work as a draftsman, in Manhattan. In 1977, Fitzgerald moved the family to Columbus, Ohio where he worked for American Electric Power until his retirement in 1996. Living in Ohio until Elsa's death, he moved to La Vista, Nebraska to be near his son, Kerryshane. In 2008, Mr. Clarke moved to Altus to be near his son, Kern, and his grandchildren. In his spare time, Mr. Clarke enjoyed playing the guitar, dancing, lifting weights, martial arts, baking bread and playing chess and checkers, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Elsa; one brother, Carlton Clarke and a son, Wayne Clarke, he is survived by two sons, Kerryshane Clarke and wife Brenda of La Vista, Nebraska and Kern Clarke, Sr. and wife Stephanie of Altus; eight grandchildren, Mark Clarke, Nichelle Clarke, Jocelyn Tolliver, Kern Clarke, Jr., Krystopher Clarke, Ayana Clarke, Hyunwoo Clarke and Nakome Clarke; two great grandchildren, Jaylin Clarke and Adison Tolliver; one daughter-in-law, Jina Clarke of Texas along with many other relatives and friends.
Memorial services for Fitzgerald Clarke will be held at 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2013, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Jackson County Memorial Hospital Hospice Chaplin Erin Martinez officiating. Cremation services have been entrusted to Lowell-Tims Funeral Home and Crematory.
