RUBEN, FLORENCE
Florence "Flory" Ruben, 89, of Altus, Oklahoma and formerly of Buffalo, New York, passed away early Sunday morning, October 9, 2016 at the Plantation Village Assisted Living Center in Altus.
Flory was born in Rochester, New York on July 15, 1927 to her parents Carl and Lena (Jadofsky) Kaufman and grew up in Buffalo, New York. In 1948 she married the love of her life, Irwin Lawrence Ruben, and they enjoyed over 42 years of marriage together before Irwin"s passing in 1990. Flory was very active at her Temple Sanai and was instrumental in putting together plays and musicals for fund raising. She loved music and singing, traveling, and shopping. She was a quintessential people person who never met a stranger. Flory took care of her family and was the world"s greatest wife and mother.
Flory was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Irwin; her daughter Shelley Lynn Ruben; her brother, George Kaufman; two sisters, Sally Kronenthal; and Mildred Cantor; 2 nephews, Martin Doctor; and Gary Doctor; Flory is survived by her son Howard George Ruben and his girlfriend Nicola Shocket of Los Angeles; her daughter Carole Dorothy Geigle and husband Jimmy of Altus; nephews, Steve Kaufman and wife Elaine of Carmel, California; and Ken Kaufman and wife Michelle of Lockport, New York; and niece Mary Doctor of Tampa, Florida; as well as numerous other family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 6:00 pm, Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the First Christian Church, 2501 North Park Lane in Altus. The family will greet guests in the Church Parlor prior the start of services.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either St. Jude's Hospital; or to the Annual Toy Run for the Kids, c/o James Geigle, 602 E. Elm St., Altus, OK 73521.
