Obituary for Francis Gerald Hukill
F. G. “Gerald” Hukill

F. G. “Gerald” Hukill, 88, died May 1st in Mckinney, Texas at Grandbrook Memory Care Center from complications of the Covid-19 virus.
Gerald is survived by his wife Opal Hukill of Weatherford, his son, J.P. Hukill and wife Jeannie of Okay, Ok, daughter Donna Jordan and husband Dan of Anna, Texas; and his niece Cynthia Hukill of Russellville, Arkansas; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, F.L. “Frank” and Audrey Hukill, brother V. N. “Viron” Hukill, and his beloved first wife and mother to his children, Vada Helen Hukill.

Gerald was born on 7/6/1931 near Russell, Oklahoma.  He grew up in the Russell area and attended school both at Centralvue and Duke.  He met, fell in love with, and married Vada Helen Anderson in 1948.  They would go on to have a great life together till her passing on 5/2/2002.

Gerald started out as a farmer, before moving his family to Los Angeles, California in the ’50s, where he worked for Challenge Dairy.  Gerald and Vada’s son was born in 1961, Jerry Pat “JP” Hukill and Gerald decided he didn’t want to raise a son in California and so he moved the family back to Oklahoma and settled in Mangum at 220 West Tyler where he would live the next 55 years.

Gerald worked at several occupations, including owning his own business, Western Fence and Awning.  He built many fences, poured porches, built railings, hung suspended ceilings, and completed other projects that are still in existence today.  He was an extraordinarily talented man, who could do almost anything he set his mind to.  He eventually went to work for the City of Mangum in the Street Department and slowly worked his way up to the position of City Manager of Mangum, a position he held until his retirement.  Upon retirement he worked full time alongside his wife in the family business, Hukill’s Antiques and Used Furniture and continued until her death in 2002.

Gerald was a member of the Church of Christ of Mangum and for several years changed the church sign, a job he truly enjoyed.  Gerald searched and researched everywhere for meaningful sayings and scripture for the signs he put up.   He was an avid and successful fisherman and hunter and he and his son spent many hours in the outdoors together making meaningful lifelong memories.

Gerald met and married the second love of his life, Opal Roberts, in 2006.  Opal and Gerald enjoyed their years together and made many great memories.  They enjoyed a full and blissful life together, until Alzheimer's/dementia forced their painful separation in 2018, when Gerald was placed by his daughter in a facility in Texas where he was a resident at the time of his death due to Covid-19 complications.

Gerald was a true believer in God and is now in heaven, probably working on some project for the lord, taking his time and drawing it all out in one of his little notepads so that it will be almost perfect when he is finished…..
