Obituary for Francis Taylor "Frank" Schenk
Francis Taylor "Frank" Schenk passed away December 20, 2001 at Comanche County Memorial Hospital. Services, under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home, are set for Saturday, December 22, 2001 at 2:00pm at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Altus. The Rev. Joseph Jacobi will officiate and interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. A prayer vigil will be held Friday evening at 7:30pm at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Frank Schenk was born August 31, 1922 in Spokane, Washington to John P. amd Gertrude (Taylor) Schenk. He attended West Valley High School and Gonzaga University in Spokane. He entered the US Army in October 1942 and became a combat crew member on a B-17 Aircraft in the European Theater of Operations. he also participated in the Normandy D-Day Invasion and Northern France Campaigns.
After discharge in 1945, he was employed by the US Navy and later as Claims Manager for the American Steamship Lines and Maritime Average Adjusters. Later he was a site manager for the Settle City Light Company.
After recall to the Korean conflict in 1950, and discharged in 1952, he was the manager of the Credit Bureau in Fairbanks, Alaska.
Schenk came to Altus in July in 1970 from the Philippines where he was a Special Advisor to the Philippine and Korean Air Ministeries.
Frank was a World II, Korea and Viet Nam Veteran. Included in his numerous awards and decorations, was the Silver Star, Distinguished Flying Cross and three Air Medals. He was also the first director of Military Affairs (Retirees) at Altus.
He was amember of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus and a member of the VFW, Dav, American Legion and several Honor Societies.
Schenk was married to Kathleen (Lankford) July 1958 at Amarillo, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of the home, adaughter, Cindy Stokes of Elk City, Oklahoma, four grandchilden; Dawn and Heather Walker, Kory Killingsworth and Dillon Stokes and one great grandchild, Zane Walker.
