DILLAHUNTY

Fred Dean Dillahunty, age 93, of Mangum, passed away Tuesday evening, December 1, 2009, in Mangum.

Mr. Dillahunty was born on January 27, 1916, in Ozark, Arkansas to John Francis and Maude (Gray) Dillahunty. In 1925, at a very young age, Fred moved to Southwest Oklahoma, with his parents, in a covered wagon. After attending Ozark School, in Greer County, Fred spent several years working on the family farm and as a mechanic. On May 17, 1939, he married the love of his life, Florene Lazelle Stover, in Lone Wolf, and they spent the next seventy wonderful years together before his death. For a short time, they made their home East of Mangum where Fred ran the old Wooten Gas Station. Later they moved to California where Fred worked as a crane operator in the shipyards. Returning to Greer County for a short time, they moved back to California in 1946, and he spent the next thirty-one years working for U.S. Steel. In 1980, Fred and Florene returned to Greer County where they made their home until his death. Working with horses, old cars and sitting on the porch were some of his favorite things to do, but most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Conrad; one sister, Georgia; one grand son-in-law, Jimmy Perry and a special friend Nolan Poteet, he is survived by his wife, Florene; two sons, Freddie Dillahunty and wife Jeanie of Mangum and Gary Dillahunty and wife Sandy of Colorado; one brother, Roy Dillahunty and wife June of Carruthers, California; seven grandchildren, Debi Davis and husband Tony, David Dillahunty and wife Sarah, Denise Webb and husband Scotty, Darci Gable and husband Tyler, Deanna Perry and Shawn Owens, Darla Williams and husband Brian and Dena Dillahunty and Rusty Scott; fifteen great grandchildren, Toby Knapp, Tara Zachary, Tori Knapp, Christopher Dillahunty, Jordan Gatlin, Falyn Webb, Fischer Webb, Asher Gable, Jordan Perry, Jake Perry, Big Perry, Tristan Williams, Taylor Williams, Trevor Williams and Gracie Scott; seven great-great grandchildren, Clayton Knapp, Cambry Knapp, Conner Knapp, Conley Knapp, Cale Zachary, Caylor Zachary and Cooper Knapp along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Fred Dillahunty will be at 3 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009, at Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum with Pastor Gary Usher officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home in Mangum.
