Obituary for Fred Washington Gunkel
Funeral services for Mr. Fred W. Gunkel, long time resident of Eldorado are scheduled at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, September 1, 1968.

Mr. Gunkel died Friday in Southwestern Hospital at Lawton after a lingering illness. Born December 17th, 1884 at Blue Prairie, Texas, he came as a young man to Oklahoma Indian Territory, where on November 3, 1907 he married Bertha Hopkins. They lived in the Lelitia Community at Lawton from 1945 to 1961 when they moved back to Eldorado and retired from his farming and cattleman activities. Mr. Gunkel was most active in the First Baptist Church having been ordained a deacon 53 years ago.

Survivors include: his wife, Bertha, of the home; three sons, Ewing Sr. and Eugene of Eldorado and James of Lawton; one son, R.J. died in 1921 in infancy; seven daughters, Mrs. Gladys Thurmond of Houston, TX, Mrs. Syble Holley of Riverside, TX and Mrs Theaola Lynn of Grover City, CA, Mrs. Frances Watkins of Lawton, Mrs. Geneva Kirkpatrick of Amarillo, TX, Mrs. Elizabeth Klein of Collinsville, IL and Mrs. Sylvesta Kinberger of Gretna, LA; one sister, Mrs. Mollie Nix of McAlister, OK; 29 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren preceded him in death.

Services will be at the First Baptist Church Eldorado, officiated by the Reverend Walter Knox and assisted by Rev. Bill Bruce of Humphries. Burial will be in Eldorado Cemetery under direction of Lowell Funeral Home.
