Obituary for Freda Ray
Freda Ray, age 76,longtime Altus and Jackson County resident, passed away Monday, January 11, 1999 at her home in Altus.
She was born November 7, 1922 at Duke, Oklahoma to the late Judge Fuller and Eunice (Gurley) Griffin. She graduated from Duke High School. Freda and Howard Ray were united in marriage on June 14, 1941 in Altus. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1997. She worked for South Western Bell Telephone Co. as a telephone operator, retiring December of 1978. For 10 years, she worked for Jackson County Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator. Freda worked as a volunteer for 20 years with the Ladies Auxiliary at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Altus where she was very active in the Abigail Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Judge Fuller and Eunice Griffin; her husband, Howard Ray; one son, Larry Ray; four brothers and five sisters.
Freda is survived by one daughter, Paula Carter and husband, Bill Jr. of Blair, Oklahoma; one daughter-in-law, Elaine Ray of Blair; two sisters, Dannie Rush of Magnum and Luene Setliff pf Sweetwater, Texas; five grandchildren, Chris Ray of Las Vegas, NV, Tony Wojtowich and wife Dorothy of Streetsboro, OH Ryan Miller of Altus, Corey of Blair, and William Carter III of Altus; many nieces, nephews and a host of close friends.
Services will be Thursday, January 14, 1999 at 10:00am at the Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eugene Foreman and Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery.
The family will have visitation Wednesday, January 13, 1999 from -8 pm at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
