Freddy Perez, Sr. longtime resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away December 13, 2023, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma after a brief illness at the age of fifty-eight.
On July 9, 1965, in Chicago, Illinois the Perez family rejoiced at the birth of their son Freddy Perez. Freddy was born the son of migrant farmers and was raised in Robstown and Carrizo Springs, Texas. He graduated Carrizo Springs High School in 1984. Soon after graduation Freddy moved to Olustee, Oklahoma at the age of nineteen where he started working for the Olustee Co-Op. Freddy was always a hard worker and determined to provide for his family. On November 12, 1985, Freddy married the love of his life Eshter Molina in Vernon, Texas. Growing up Freddy developed a great love for Spanish Christian music and learned how to play the drums early in his life. He was in numerous bands that played revivals all over Texas and Oklahoma. A huge part of Freddy was his faith and love in the lord Jesus Christ, Freddy was raised in the Pentecostal church but later in life joined the Altus First United Methodist Church. In 1990 Freddy started working for the city of Altus in fleet maintenance, which soon developed into a full-time position working in Altus City Cemetery. This is where Freddy found his calling. During his thirty plus year Texas career in Parks and Recreation, Freddy worked hard to make the Altus City Cemetery what it is today, making it one of the best cemeteries in all of Southwest, Oklahoma. He was instrumental in the design and building of the Centennial Chapel within Altus City Cemetery. Freddy was always on the go and could light up any room he entered with his smiling and loving personality. He served on countless boards and organizations throughout Altus. He was the chairman of the Main Street Authority, on the JCMH Hospice advisory board, ran the rock and rumble every year. Let’s be honest, there wasn’t much going on in Altus that Freddy Perez wasn’t a part of. When he wasn’t working or in meetings, Freddy could be found playing golf, watching his beloved Cubs, Dallas Cowboys, OSU Cowboys, or visiting with friends and family. But the thing that made Freddy, Freddy was his love of his family. Everything was about his family, everything he did was for the betterment of his family. As much as he loved his children, nothing made Freddy happier than spending time with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life, his pride and joy. Freddy leaves a legacy of love and passion throughout his friends, family, and community. He will be dearly missed, and Altus will never be the same without our Freddy.
