Obituary for Gary Reed Barrett
Barrett

Gary Reed Barrett was born in Altus, Oklahoma 12-24-1945, the first of five children born to Charles Reed and Mary Ferne caves Barrett. Gray grew up on his parents' farm, loving the outdoors. At age 12 he was baptized at Martha Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and felt called to be a preacher. He graduated from Martha High School in 1964. He began attending college at Oklahoma Baptist University, where he met and married Nancy Carolyn Golden. They had two daughters, Kimberlee Ann and Rachel Suzanne. he completed his degree at Hardin Simmons in law enforcement in 1971. During his life he worked in law enforcement in Abilene, TN; Snyder, TX; Mesquite, TX Douglas, WY; and Cody WY; and also worked undercover for the DEA for a number of years. He married his beloved wife Michelle Lynn Maupin in 1990. In 1993 he adopted Michelle's daughter Kinberley Kay at age six.
After marrying Michelle, he fulfilled a life-long dream of working on and managing large ranches is South Dakota, Montana, and Wyoming.
From 1999 to 2006 he and Michelle and Kimberley returned to Oklahoma where they built a home outside Martha near the Salt Fork of the Red River. At the time of his death, he was living in Pueblo, Co.
Over his lifetime, Gary worked in trucking, ranching, farming and law enforcement. Although he never had a pulpit, he preached the love and mercy of Jesus Christ wherever he went. His love of the Lord was magnetic and genuine. He understood hardship. He understood redemption. He was a faithful son, loving father, proud grandfather and dear friend, beloved by many. He never met a stranger. His smile and ready laugh could light up a room. He wasn't afraid to show emotion or affection, or to speak abut matters of the heart and eternal things.
