Obituary for Gene Eldon Morrison
Gene Eldon Morrison, a life long resident of Southwest, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, Altus, Oklahoma at the age of eighty - two. Two days after Christmas in 1941 Mr. Eldon Morrison and Mrs. Ruby P. (Anderson) Morrison rejoyed at the birth of their son, Gene Eldon Morrison. Gene was raised in the Lake Hall community which was near Elmer, Oklahoma. He was raised on the family farm, he started working on the farm at a young age helping his family with their cattle and growing cotton. Following high school, Gene worked for Sooner craft boats in Eldorado. Oklahoma as a painter. On January 29, 1964, Gene was drafted into the United States Army where he served in the artillery. He was deployed to Vietnam, this war for ever changed Gene. He saw heavy combat action and rarely spoke of his military experience. While war may harden some men, Gene was the opposite it made him a more kinder and gentler man, who appreciated the spender of Gods beautiful creation. Gene was excited to return home to Southwest, Oklahoma. Gene loved to take things apart and "improve" them. Later in life Gene found his passion sewing and quilting. He had an incredible talent working with fabric. He relished in giving away his beautiful creations to his family and friends. Gene was a kind man who was always willing to help a family member, a friend, or even a stranger. He loved his family, and enjoyed spending time with his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews.
Gene was preceded in death by his father Eldon Morrison, his mother, Ruby P. Morrison, brother, Keith Morrison, his beloved companion, Gene's dog Shelby.
Left to honor Gene's memory are his siblings, Etta MCKee, Virginia Carlucci and husband Fred, Betty Lee King, Joan Stevenson and Philip , Ricky Morrison and wife Darla, Mitchel Morrison and wife Kim, numerous, nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
The Morrison family will receive friends 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 19. 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at Lowell - Tims Funeral
