STOVALL
Geneva Catherine Stovall, age 97, of Granite, passed away late Thursday evening, April 23, 2009, at Plantation Village Care Center in Altus.
Mrs. Stovall was born on August 24, 1911, in Guion, Arkansas to Allen Van Buren and Delora Frances (Hodges) Cooper. Three years later they moved to Granite where her father was employed at Pellow Brothers Monument Works. Geneva finished all twelve grades at Granite School. On June 19, 1952, she married Jesse Stovall and he preceded her in death on August 7, 1972. She was a member of the First Baptist Church on Main Street, in Granite, where she was a member of the Girls Auxillary, Women"s Missionary Union, a counselor for G.A. Girls, W.M.U. Director and a teacher of older women"s Sunday School Class. Geneva also helped a few times at Falls Creek and assisted with cooking and serving meals twice a year at the Baptist Student Union in Altus. Painting and making quilts were two of her hobbies, but spending time with her friends and family was what brought joy to her life.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jesse; one son, Charles Raymond Reed; one great grandson, Christopher David; two brothers, Dick Cooper and June Cooper; three sisters, Aliene Cox, Lydia Nickell and Hilda Ellis. Survivors in include two daughters, Marjorie Fox of Granite and Veda Reed of Memphis, Tennessee; one son, David Stovall and wife Brenda of Cloud Croft, New Mexico; one sister, Joyce Ottum of Racine, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren and many other friends and relatives.
Funeral services for Geneva Stovall will be at 2 p.m., Monday, April 27, 2009, at the Granite First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Van Vacter III and Rev. Arol Steverson officiating. Interment will follow at the Granite City Cemetery under the direction of Greer Funeral Home of Mangum.
The family will greet friends at Greer Funeral Home in Granite on Sunday, April 26, 2009, from 4 until 5 p.m.
