Genevieve Barker, longtime Altus resident, passed away Friday, August 28, 2009, in Coppell, Texas.
Genevieve was born April 23, 1919, south of Altus, to Ezra C. and Alice (Brinkman) Bourland. She graduated from Porter High School. Genevieve married C.D. "Winky" Barker on June 30, 1947. She began her bookkeeping career at Morrison Wholesale and also worked at First National Bank, First State Bank, and Altus Finance Company. She then retired from Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.
Genevieve was preceded in death by her husband, Winky; parents; sister, Gerri Garlow; and brother, Dwight Bourland. She left her beloved Altus in 2002 to closer be to family. She spent her final years enjoying bingo, dominoes, and card games with family and friends.
Our precious mother and grandmother is survived by daughters Marsha Bright and husband Ken of Coppell, Texas; Donna Ashley and husband Mike of Midwest City, Oklahoma; and granddaughters Lindsay Ashley of Los Angeles, California; Alyssa Ashley of Midwest City, Oklahoma; Kristen Bright of Coppell, Texas; and Jeri Bright of Norman, Oklahoma. She will be lovingly remembered by other family and friends.
