Obituary for Genevieve W. Allen
Genevieve "Petey" W. Allen, age 86, a long-time resident of Altus, Oklahoma passed away in Round Rock, Texas on March 23, 2023.
Petey was born in Walters, Oklahoma on May 1, 1936, to Robert and Ruth Lee (Dickerson) Smith. She was the seventh child born in the Allen family. She was raised and educated in Walters, Oklahoma. Petey baptized and excepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and savior at the Walters First Baptist Church where her grandfather Reverend Oscar Seldon Dickerson served as pastor. Upon graduation from high school Petey attended nursing school at Western Technology Center, Burns Flat, Oklahoma. She worked at Jackson County for many years as an Lpn working all over the hospital. She was known as a highly skilled and compassionate nurse who always put the well-being of her patients before anything else.
On May 16, 1954, in Amarillo, Texas Petey married Richard Allen. They were blessed with five children, Louise, Connie, Jack, Vicky, and Richard, The young Allen family had their home in Altus, Oklahoma. They enjoyed fishing, hunting, and traveling. Together they traveled all over the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
Petey was a loving Wife, devoted Mother, Sister, but her favorite title was Granny. She relished every moment with her grandkids. Petey loved to make them quilts, afghans, and handmade dolls with of course hand made clothes. As skilled as she was in the domestic arts she was an accomplished hunter who never missed a shot, could skin a fish as quickly as any fisherman, and was a pretty good shade tree mechanic. Petey was truly the definition of a pioneer woman.
Preceding Petey in death were her father, Robert Smith; her mother Ruth Lee Dickerson Smith; six siblings, her daughter-in-law, Shawna Allen and her beloved husband Richard Allen.
Left to honor Petey's memory are her five children, Louise Briscoe and her husband Dean of Arkansas; Vicky Williford and husband Tony Don of Hillsboro, Texas; Jack Allen of Blum, Texas; Richard B. Allen, Tuttle, Oklahoma; Connie Allen of Hillsboro, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
A viewing will be 9:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Lowell - Tims Funeral Home, Altus, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Allen will be laid to rest next to her husband Richard at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Restlawn Cemetery in Altus, Oklahoma.
