Obituary for George Edwin Olson
George Edwin Olson, age 86, of Victory, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, June 2nd, 1998 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was born April 30th, 1912 on the family Turkey Creek farm to the late Anna M. and John Algot Olson.
George started school at Aaron and later attended the Tyler School and graduated from Victory in 1929. On September 1, 1934, George and Martha Spraggins were united in marriage at the Duke Methodist Parsonage. She preceded him in death October 16, 1992.
George was a lifelong Jackson County resident, he farmed in the Victory community for many years. He was a Sunday School Superintendent at Victory Methodist Church, and later served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees and President of the Methodist Men at the Duke First United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, June 5,1998 at 11:00 a.m. at the Duke First United Methodist Church with rev. Ginny Hathaway and Rev. Mark Sewell officiating. Burial will follow in the Victory Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home.
Survivors include: four children, Mary E. Jacobs of Windthorst, TX, Elmeda Payne and her husband Buck of Duke, OK, Jimmy E. Olson and his wife Carol of Willis, TX and Phil Olson and his wife Glyna of Altus, Oklahoma; one sister, Ruth Hall and husband Raymond of Altus, OK; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Betty and Gordon Atchinson of Anaheim, CA and Opal Spraggins of Northridge, CA.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Martha Olson on October 16, 1992; three sisters, Esther Olson Heidenreich, Bertha Olson Swanson and Hattie Olson; one son-in-law, Jim Jacobs.
Family will have visitation Thursday evening at Lowell-Tims from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
