Obituary for George Willie Strawn Jr.
G.W. Strawn, 95, of Eldorado, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday evening, August 20, 2011, at Harmon Memorial Hospital in Hollis.
G.W. was born September 22, 1915, in Eldorado to George Willie and Elizabeth Ann (Daniels) Strawn. He was the youngest of three children. G.W. rode his horse "Pat" everyday to the Lincoln School in Jackson County, where he graduated in 1932. When he got home from school, he worked the farm and took care of the mules his family owned. He played as a pitcher on a men"s baseball team in Eldorado as a young man.
G.W. married Nova Bynum March 17, 1938, in Tipton, Oklahoma. After their marriage, they moved to Texas where he worked in the oil fields for a few years. Their only son, Jim, was born during this time. G.W., Nova, and Jim moved back to Eldorado to live on the family farm. He showed registered polled Hereford cattle, planted cotton and wheat, and just enjoyed farming and ranching in general. He was still plowing the fields up until 2007, when an accidental fall at his great-grandsons" ballgame broke his hip and his farming days came to a halt at the age of 91.
