Obituary for Gerald Ivan Babb
Gerald Ivan Babb, 76, passed away at the Grace Living Center in Altus on Tuesday, September 11, 2001. He was born on March 12, 1925 to Arlie Ivan and Mazella (Jones) Babb in Eldorado, Oklahoma, where he grew up. He attended the First Baptist Church in Eldorado and graduated from Eldorado High School with the class of 1943. Gerald served in Europe in the United States Armed Forces during WWII. Later he moved to Wichita, Kansas and worked for the Boeing Air Craft Company. Gerald attended the University of Oklahoma to study music. In the mid 1950's he returned to Eldorado where he began his career doing masonry work and building homes. In the 1970's he owned and operated a Home Building Supply Company as well as continuing his home building business. Gerald was a musician at heart and loved playing the piano. After retiring, he entertained for many special occasions and played dinner music at the Altus Air Force Base Officer's Club. He married Carol (Cranfill) Mefford in Weatherford, OK, on July, 27,1985. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Wallace and Herman Babb. He is survived by: His Wife: Carol Babb of the home in Eldorado, Oklahoma Three children: Deborah Huber and husband Michael, of Paris, Arkansas Steve Babb and wife, Monica, of Eldorado, Oklahoma Derek Babb of the home in Eldorado, Oklahoma Two Step-children: Stephanie Marsh and husband , Don, of Vernon, Texas Kyle Mefford and wife, Angela, of Eldorado, Oklahoma Two Brothers: Raburne Babb and Wife, Kathy, of San Jose, California Carroll Babb and wife, Jimmie, of Dallas, Texas
Four Grandchildren: Jill Urie-Lanman, Bryan Urie, Ashley Swain and Eric Babb Five Step-Grandchildren Two Great-Grandchildren and Many nephews and nieces Services are set for 2:00 PM Thursday, September 13, 2001 at the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery. There will be viewing beginning Wednesday evening at 500 PM in the Lowell Tims Funeral Home Chapel.
