Obituary for Gerald Wayne Cavener
Gerald Wayne Cavener passed away Oct 13, 2009, at Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born December 6, 1924, to Oscar Ben Fitzgerald Penn Cavener and Bessie Wilma Lindsey Cavener. He was raised in the rural area outside Eldorado, Oklahoma. He graduated from Louis Hill High School in 1942. After graduating high school, he attended a business college and then began his military service. While serving in the Army during World War II he was injured in Okinawa, for which he received a Purple Heart Medal. After recovering from his injuries, he started a long career with the U.S. Postal Service and also farmed. Gerald married Vida Ruth Macom on October 23, 1970. He retired from the postal service and eventually from farming.
In addition to his love for farming, he enjoyed golfing and traveling by motor home to sightsee and visit family and friends. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Eldorado and served as a Deacon and song director. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Eldorado and a member of the Quanah Country Club.
He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Vida of the home; two sisters, Geneva Hicks of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Jo Prestidge of California; four children: Becky Cavener Denham and husband Dan of Durango, Colorado, Ricky Cavener and wife Lee Ann of Owasso, Oklahoma, Gregg Cavener and wife Debra of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Scott Cavener and wife Kathy of Bethany, Oklahoma; three step-children: Carolyn Cook and husband Chuck of Roff, Oklahoma, Tom Macom and wife Tina of Gould, Oklahoma, and Floyd Macom and wife Linda of Randolph, Alabama. Gerald was a wonderful father to Vida"s children.
He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 16, at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Mr. Cavener will lie in state at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home in Eldorado beginning Thursday, October 15.
Funeral Services for Gerald Cavener will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2009, at the First Baptist Church in Eldorado with Reverend Pete Wylie officiating. Interment will follow at the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of Lowell-Tims Funeral Home.
