GERALDINE "DEAN" SMITH
Geraldine "Dean" Smith, age 89 a lifelong resident of Mangum, Oklahoma, passed away Saturday afternoon, March 22, 2014 at the Angelwood Assisted Living Center in Clinton, Oklahoma.
Dean was born in Fannin County, Texas on August 10, 1924 to Marion Clay and Willie Orba (Bradford) Carpenter. Dean graduated from Centralview High School, May 27, 1942 and in 1945 she married Alton Smith at the Baptist Church Parsonage in Mangum and they were married for over 56 years before Alton"s death in 2002. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mangum and she was a Sunday School Teacher for many years there. She also worked at Pucket"s Grocery and at Fike"s Photography Studio where she helped put the color in the black and white pictures. She enjoyed reading and working cross word puzzles, quilting, crocheting and any crafts, gardening, cooking and making her secret recipe homemade bread. Dean took care of her family and she loved spending time with her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews, family was very important to Dean and she will be missed very much.
Preceded in death by her parents and her husband Alton; two brothers, Earmon Carpenter; Marion C. "Sonny" Carpenter, Jr.; one brother-in-law, Ivan Worthen; one sister, Imogene Worthen; one sister-in-law, Dorris Carpenter; and one granddaughter, Lindsay Rubio Martinez; Dean is survived by one son, Phil Smith and his wife Elaine of Mangum; one daughter, Sue Ann Rubio and her husband Victor of Clinton, Oklahoma; one grandson, Ty Rope Smith of Mangum; five granddaughters, Amber Buchanan and husband Morris of Branson, Missouri; Allison Southerland and husband Lawerance of Clinton, Oklahoma; Sarah Johnson and husband Jasper of Longview, Texas; Laura Rubio and fianc" Junior Leaper of Sentinel, Oklahoma; Meagan Rubio and fianc" Andrew Hulett of Weatherford, Oklahoma; twelve great grandchildren, Madison, Kalli, Kimbre, Johnney, Alexa, Aundrea, Jasper, Jr., Raeleigh, Skylar, Ethan, Levi, and Harley-she"s due in May; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at the First Baptist Church in Mangum. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Mangum under the direction of Greer Funeral Home-Mangum.
