Obituary for Gilmer Lee Hull
Gilmer Lee Hull, 81, passed away Sunday, July 27, 1995 in Norman, Oklahoma following a lengthy illness. Gilmer was born May 19, 1914, at Jacksboro, Texas to Lyman Hull and Hettie Leetch. He was a long time resident of and Altus and Jackson County, having resided here over 46 years. On September 15, 1936, he married Levie Lorene Ashton at Athens, Texas and she preceded him in death on May 13, 1994. He was active in farming for many years. He also served as custodian at Altus High School and was a retired property owner. He was a long time, active member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon.
Mr. Hull was a very special man. He loved pretty flowers and looking at old houses. Many yards in Altus have benefited from his talented touch. He could tell you which yards the squirrels frequented. Gilmer loved to put on his overalls and take a fishing trip with his brother-in-law, Jim Goss. Jim could tell you that Gilmer could sure beat the fire out of a Garr with a pair of pliers. Gilmer loved people to visit and would always insist that you had to a least drink a cup of coffee with him.
Gilmer loved Katie Lynn and would really light up when she was around. The time he was able to spend with her will always be treasured. He had a never ending love for his Levie and his daughter. He was a wonderful Christian example to his family and friends. The will all remember him sitting down every night, reading from his big Bible.
Gilmer loved his Stetson hat, dogs, the outdoors, working on bicycles and playing dominoes. He was a real "gentleman" who would always get up when a lady came into the room and would offer her his chair. Gilmer was mischevious, and you always knew when he was going to pull something by the sparkle in his eyes. He never complained either of pain or hardship. He kept his faith and accepted what life dealt him. He will be greatly missed and remembered by all who know him.
Mr. Hull was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Levie Lorene; and one grandchild, Nancy Roberts.
He is survived by two daughters Laura Mae Roberts of Altus, and Betty Kastner of Noble. Oklahoma; one sister, Rugh Casey of Baytown, Texas; four grandchildren, Cherry Slaughter, Rickey Kastner, Lee Roberts, and Laura Harmon; and eight great-grandchildren, Amy Harmon, Stephaine Kastner, Michelle Roberts, Christy Slaughter, Andy Harmon, Melissa Slaughter, Danielle Kastner and Katie Harmon.
