Obituary for Gladys Baker
Gladys Melissa Cooper McFadin Baker, age 85, died June 22nd, 1994 at the Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, OK. She was born September 26th, 1908 at Hale Center, Texas, to the late R.L. and Bertha Cooper. She married Otis Baker April 2, 1955 in Vernon, TX and he preceded her in death in March of 1988. She was a longtime resident of Altus and Jackson County. She served on the Altus City Council from 1987-1988, representing Ward 4. She had been an active member of the First Baptist Church, having been a member since the age of 19. She was a 39-year-member of the Rebekah Lodge since 1955, having served as the Noble Grand in 1979. Mrs. Baker devoted much of her time to the Oklahoma Lung Association and the Literacy Council. She was an active member the Intouchabe Ministry of the First Baptist Church, the RSVP, and served as a volunteer with Auxiliary of the Jackson County Memorial Hospital.

Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Wiginton officiating. Interment will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Lowell Tims Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Rebekah Lodge #75, to Checotah Home.

Survivors include: five children, James Lee McFadin and wife Alice of Devine, TX, Oneita Ruth Dorman of San Antonio, TX, Roy Joe McFadin and wife Narissa of San Antonio, TX, Mary Ann Teague and husband Reily of McAllen, TX and Brittie Emma Chrismon and husband Robert of San Antonio, Texas; 15 grandchildren, Ted McFadin, John McFadin, Paul McFadin, Catherine Cheaney, Sharlotte Teague, Reily Teague, Randy Teague, Cheryl Jones, Robert Chrismon, Georgette Brewer, Linda Gonzales, Christy SeBree, Gary Chrismon, Judy Lynn McFadin and Sandra Ann McFadin; 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, Otis Baker, March 1988; son-in-law, Carl Dorman.
