Obituary for Gladys Bolivia Foster
Gladys Bolivia Foster, 89 died Thursday, January 27, 2005 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital in Altus. Funeral services will be held at Lowell-Tims Chapel on Monday January 31, 2005 at 2:00 pm with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Interment will follow at the Altus City Cemetery.

Gladys was born to Dan and Mable Mayrhoffen June 13, 1915 in Fuel, Oklahoma in Carter County. They moved east of Altus on a farm in the Ozark community where Gladys and her sisters, Lola Mable and Ruby attended Ozark school. Gladys attended Ozark High School reunions for over twenty years where she enjoyed her many friends and acquaintances. She married James Neil Foster in 1933 in Altus, Oklahoma. James was a deacon at First Baptist Church, Altus where Gladys was active in the W.M.U. and Girls Auxilliary for many,many years. James and Gladys were instrumental in forming the first Spanish Mission east of town for Altus First Baptist in the 1950's.. She sought out the Spanish youth and taught their week-day Bible classes for many years. She and James, along with two other deacon families, constructed and began a Southern Baptist Miss in the Pagosa Springs area, Colorado, for the Native Americans. Her work with Women's Missions and Girls Auxilliary was selfless, tireless and constantly dedicated.

She worked at Russell's Department Store, Wilson's Dry Good, The Surrey Shop, and Watkins Department Store through the 1970's until her retirement. Working with the public gave her much pleasure. Gladys was a devoted mother, wife, and especially enjoyed her grandchildren. She and James had four children, Jean Kaye, Winston Fred, James Read, and Jerry Niel Foster. Preceding her in death was her husband James, January 7, 1977 and her son Jerry Niel on July 4, 1977. Also preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Lola Mable Morris and Ruby Chisholm.

She is survived by three children, Jean Kaye and Avery Braziel, Altus, and grandchildren Kelli Jeanine and Jaime Danielle of Wichita Falls Texas; Winston Fred and Sylvia Foster and grandchildren Stacy Kaye Foster-Espinosa and husband Jimmy of Frederick, and P. Scott Foster and wife Kimberly of Houstn, Texas, two great-grandchildren, Abby Espinosa of Frederick and Katie Victoria Foster of Houston, Texas; son, James Read and Linda Foster, Altus, and grandson Russell Read and wife Lisa Foster of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Craig Richardson, Terry and Tim Sinard, Ryan and Tyler Sinard of Altus, Oklahoma; four grandchildren Amanda, Cassie, Alyssa, and Wesley Foster, Kingman, Arizona who survive son, Jerry Niel Foster.
She is also survived by many friends and loving church family.
